Modibo Maiga
Sent out on loan to Metz last season and scored 9 goal in 25 matches.

Is he worth another chance?

He may not be suitable for us but in fairness he didn't fit into Sam's idiosyncratic set up.

Some players just aren't suited to the PL, or fail to adapt. Sakho settled immediately and his game seems perfect for the PL, whereas Maiga always seemed to want more time to think about what he was going to do. The game is faster paced with less time on the ball than in France, Maiga proved with both us and QPR that he isn't suited.

It has nothing to do with him playing poorly. He hasn't played poorly, he just isn't good enough.

There is a difference.

Well speaking as a man who has taken Truro City, Romford FC and the mighty UCD to the very pinnacle of Champions league football, I can assure you that under the right conditions, Maiga would thrive. His stats are bang average but he had good finishing and postioning stats only really let down by his Teamwork attribute....

Re: Modibo Maiga
One thing I learnt from managing an amateur side is that you never assume that because a player played poorly 2 seasons ago he will play poorly this season.

Human beings have this funny knack of getting the messages to sink in and change what was wrong with their game. Sometimes just the motivation of a new manager and an expiring contract, players can suddenly find form. That's why those in form keep the shirt. Those not doing it lose the shirt.

It is never B&W Glenn and roe is right. It is up to the manager to decide whether to stick, twist or buy...

You don't even strike me as someone with half a brain yet alone half a footballing one.

I've given my opinion, if the managers if different then unlike you I'm not stupid enough to question his competence.

That is the whole point Croe, because if Bilic brings him back in when anyone with half a football brain can clearly see that Maiga isn't up to it, then it has to raise a question on the competency of our Manager.

But I predict that Bilic will move him on.

Maiga never had a chance under Sam's style of play, though that's not to say he's good enough.

I'm up for giving everyone a chance though, as he might have improved last season getting a whole run of performances and some morale boosting goals.

"Are you still finding it too difficult to understand or are you really that thick?"

I think it's clear by EVERY thread you go on and the amount of people that mock you that you're the thick one.

You didn't make it clear and now you have clarified your point you still look stupid because IF Bilic brings him back into first team contention then he would have seen something he likes in the player.

Pretty simple stuff but far beyond what you can seem to grasp.

Re: Modibo Maiga
His confidence certainly was shot after he was shunted up front by himself. That's why I've been glad to hear him doing well in France. He could be on the comeback and prove a decent striker the next few seasons. Who knows.

There's no guarantee that his replacement will be any better either. Look at the last few strikers we've bought. All of them besides Sakho have been a disappointment in some way.

That's why I think Slaven should have a good look at him.

I mean I will raise an eyebrow if Bilic decides to bring him back into first team contention once the season kicks off.

If Bilic really knows his onions then he will flog Maiga or pack him out on loan again as we did last year. Or worse case scenario negotiate a deal and pay him off, just as we did with Diarra.

Are you still finding it too difficult to understand or are you really that thick?

Re: Modibo Maiga
When it comes to Maiga, just lets see what Slav thinks.

Personally, I like the idea that he can share the burden of these early Euro games with our first choice strikers. Whether he stays, goes, proves everyone wrong or right doesn't really interest me. I think he's an alright player whose confidence has gone to shit - that doesn't mean we can't find a better player to replace him. It also doesn't mean that he can't get his confidence back and prove a half useful option.

I'm not illogical about Maiga at all thanks. I've seen every minute he's played for West Ham and don't believe he's suited to English football regardless of WHO the manager is.

The game is too quick for him and it's telling that the couple of times he's looked a player is as a late sub.

He's ONE year left on his contract and he's had a half decent season back in France so for me the time to try and sell him is now and try to get something back on him.

League 2 is probably a better standard then some of the teams in the first two rounds

I am saying it makes more sense to sell Maiga and improve the squad then keep him for 6 games where we have other players that are more then capable of doing that job. He has had his chance and has shown nothing, these early rounds can be used to give Lee some game time and to aid his development.
